VIPP Salaca River Cabin Where Scandinavian Style Meets Latvian Nature

Sometimes I feel like this blog is basically a peek into my inner daydreams, especially when it comes to the home tours I share. 

It’s Monday, the sun is shining, and I’m at my desk… but honestly, I’d rather be surrounded by trees, listening to birdsong and the gentle ripple of water. Can you relate?

Maybe that’s why I’ve been posting so many getaway homes lately (sorry!). Here’s one more for the mood — and then I promise I’ll share some fab city places later this week!

Today’s tour takes us to Latvia, a small country in Northern Europe, known for its vast forests, quiet rivers, and beautiful, understated design. It sits right across the Baltic Sea from Sweden, and feels like the kind of place where you can truly slow down.

Tucked away by the Saka River, this modern cabin by Danish brand VIPP is a total dream. The black exterior is bold but beautifully balanced by its peaceful surroundings. Step inside, and it gets even better — the interior combines rustic wood with soft, pale furnishings, creating a space that feels both grounded and calm. Large windows frame generous glimpses of nature, letting in soft light and views of the river and forest beyond. It’s the kind of place where your shoulders drop the moment you walk in.

And after a day of kayaking (or, let’s be honest, doing nothing at all!), you can pour a glass of wine and sink into the sofa — or step outside for a soak in the hot tub overlooking the river. Heaven!


Incredible — I just love how the interior interacts so seamlessly with the outdoors. You feel completely immersed in nature the whole time.

Oh, how I’d love to stay here for a week or two! I even spotted a little desk where I could sit and dabble in a bit of work — the dream work-from-home setup, don’t you think?

A Swedish City Apartment with a Little Sunroom

Hej vänner! Ready for a new week?   Looking at the picture above, you'd be forgiven for thinking that this is a classic Swedish summer cottage in the depths of the countryside. But, after featuring not one  but two country homes last week - I promised you something different. And this beauty is in the heart of Södermalm in Stockholm!  Cosy and blessed with the high ceilings we have become so accustomed to with these Swedish homes, the apartment has the best of both worlds - access to the city, with a little outdoor oasis.  Stockholm is known for being compact and property is hard to come by without paying a premium. As result, you'll often find studio apartments. This 49 square metre (527 square foot) living space, however, is blessed with a separate sitting room, kitchen and bedroom - albeit a snug one! Escape to a Cosy Swedish Summer Cottage in the Heart of the Countryside

We’re up at our little cabin now, enjoying a slower pace – long lunches, a bike ride to tennis, then a swim. It’s the kind of holiday I look forward to all year. Sweden is at its summer best: lush forests, wildflowers everywhere, warm days with a gentle breeze, and beach picnics with friends – plus a bit of chaos too when it comes to grocery runs and washing dishes! But even that has its charm. Yesterday at the local supermarket, a whole family walked in wearing dressing gowns – just back from a swim!
